Film news Will the Three Stooges movie ever happen

One of the most consistently confusing pieces of film news to have been in and out of the Hollywood press pages this year is the reinvention of The Three Stooges for modern audiences.
Early reports seemed unsure as to what exactly the project would end up being and what MGM – the company behind the reboot – had in mind. Some speculated that the film would be a biopic documenting the lives and troubled relationship between Moe Howard, Larry Fine and Curly Howard. Others suggested there were plans to recreate their slapstick humour around an entirely new fictional plot. At this stage, it seems we are a million miles away from any film trailers or teaser posters to support the flick – but it has definitely been an interesting few months for details on the project.
Recent reports have suggested that following the financial woes of MGM, Fox is now ready to take the movie to the next stage of its development. Interestingly, it seems that The Farrelly Brothers – the directorial duo behind comedies like Dumb and Dumber, Stuck on You and There’s Something About Mary – are still the names in the frame to take up the camera. This would seem to suggest the film will eventually be an out-and-out comic caper, rather than the real-life drama some had predicted. Less certain nike heels , however, is exactly who will reprise the roles of the characters themselves.
Originally, it had been reported that the powerhouse trio of Sean Penn as Larry, Benicio Del Toro as Moe, and Jim Carrey as Curly had been lined up. Later though, Penn was confirmed as out, leaving Paul Giamatti to step into the shoes he’d left behind. Since then, it seems that despite gaining 40 pounds for the role, Jim Carrey has also now stepped aside. Speaking to MTV about the movie as a whole, the plastic-faced star said: “I think it’s dead. It’s dead at least with me.”
The latest news on the subject though, is that Fox has slated The Three Stooges to begin shooting in March 2011, giving them just four months to lock down their final three lead actors. In a statement issued to Deadline, director Peter Farrelly said it was vital that the right people were found to take up these iconic roles. “The script is ready to go, and we are opening up these roles to the world right now,” he told the site. “This is not The Flintstones,” Farrelly concluded, “You’ve got to be Moe Howard, Larry Fine and Curly Howard and that could be a major movie star or an unknown.”

Superhero Spin-offs

, Posted in: aboriginal culture, Author: admin (January 17, 2012)

With the film news community reporting that Marvel are planning to do a spin-off of Iron Man featuring James Rhodes as War Machine, we had a look at some of the great and not so great superhero spin-offs and sequels we’ve seen in the past:

X-men Origins: Wolverine
This was a highly successful spin-off of the X-men trilogy of films focusing on the extremely popular character of Wolverine. There is a lot of chatter in the film news arena about the future spin-off Deadpool movie. There is also lots of talk about the Wolverine getting its own sequel, set in Japan and focused on Wolverine’s time at a key period in his life. The final scenes of the first Wolverine movie act as great teaser film trailer for the second movie. The movie would be based on the Claremont-Miller series which star Hugh Jackman has already said was his favourite

Elektra
Elektra was released in 2005 as a spin-off of the Daredevil movie of two years before that. The film was featured in many film news publications for being the lowest earning movie featuring a Marvel character since Howard the Duck. The film was initially intended to include Daredevil, although he was cut in the final film version. There were many comic fans that felt the film suffered because it strayed too far from the original material since Frank Miller was only credited for the characters rather than the story

Evan Almighty
(While not specifically a superhero film the fact that the protagonist is a prophet is pretty super so we’re including it in this list) This film was released as a sequel and spin-off of Bruce Almighty with the lead role changing from Jim Carrey to Steve Carrell. The scope of the movie was also massively different with the second film being seen as an epic with a fairly simplistic message about spirituality. The film generally scored poorly in critics ratings, even with it having an epic sized budget. The film trailer was first screened alongside another Carrell project, The Office, presumably to increase association.

The Chronicles of Riddick
The Chronicles of Riddick was created as a spinoff of Pitch black, which both starred Vin Diesel in the role of Riddick. There are 3 versions of the film which include different sub-plots as well as different endings. Even though the reception for the film was lukewarm, Vin Diesel has consistently insisted that there are two sequels to come. Film news earlier this year showed that he was working on pre-production and that one of the locations they plan to use is the White Desert in Egypt.
